RAW FROM NO LUV "WARTIME VIDEO"

Disclaimer:

I by no means support violence of any type nor do I support gun ownership by really anybody ever. I never have never will. With that being said...

This is probably the best local video ever! Why?

- RAW and Drazah and UC are personal freinds of mine and help me out alot with HIP HOP HELL, so automatically they have my full support immediatly, no questions asked.
- This song, while un creative, in my opinion and twisted way of thinking, is absolutely hilarious! Cock back..... reload....hahahah.
-That is the best use of blue screen effect ever in the history of anything, hands down! My man RAW is on some Speilburg shit! Foreal!
- Jacksonville does, and always has, had this type of rappers and always will, so you better just ride with it rather than fight it. This is what these dudes do, they are dead serious about it, who the fuck am I to judge? How do they judge my work? We dont judge each other, we work together for a common cause.

Thats just me. And my peoples. What do yall think?
Regardless, enjoy your new Duval anthem.

R.I.P. Rick O'shea- A Jacksonville Arts Icon

Did you ever see that old hippie in a wheelchair out and about? Rick was a freind of my pop's and an all around ill dude. He knew all about everything, but specialized in arts, african drums, kites, music, and smoke. He made a living, in Jacksonville, in the early 90's, as a kite maker! Dude had an ill Kite shop on the southbank riverwalk when I was a kid. Then, he got sick of paying rent and just made his own huge kit shop in his back yard. He was a professional kite maker. How ill is that?

Rick O'Shea, who brought the joy of kite-making and kite-flying to hundreds of people in Jacksonville despite being a quadriplegic, died in his sleep Tuesday at his Southside home. He was 51. The cause is still being determined. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. April 26 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 6320 Bennett Road, followed by a reception in the church hall. Friends said Mr. O'Shea was remarkable for his accomplishments and outlook on life despite his physical disability, the result of being critically injured in an auto accident that killed a friend in 1975. ''No person I've ever known who has walked made the impact this man did from a wheelchair,'' said Vincent Balanky, a friend since childhood. ''Rick was a hugely intelligent guy, and I can't ever remember him feeling sorry for himself,'' said a former business partner, Pat O'Rourke. ''He was such an inspiration to others.'' In a 1986 interview, Mr. O'Shea said his philosophy on life ''is to keep laughing and to look for what you can do. There's a whole lot no one can do and a lot that everyone can do.'' Born in Jacksonville, Mr. O'Shea graduated from Englewood High School in 1974. At the time of his near-fatal accident, he had enlisted in the Army, but had not reported for duty, according to his mother, Anne O'Shea. He started taking college classes while still in intensive care in the hospital when a therapist got a Florida Community College at Jacksonville professor to agree to take him as a student. The hospital people were wonderful, Anne O'Shea said. They rigged up a contraption that turned the pages on textbooks for him. ''He would dictate his reports to me and I took them down in shorthand and typed them for him,'' she said. ''It was just incredible and he got an A in the course.'' Mr. O'Shea eventually was able to use an electric wheelchair and a specially equipped vehicle to drive himself to classes at FCCJ and then to the University of North Florida, where he earned a master's degree in education with a 4.0 average, his mother said. She said she's getting phone calls from across the country from his friends who are learning of his death. Mr. O'Shea taught disabled children and young adults at Sunny Acres Camp and also became a part-time instructor at FCCJ. He found he could use his childhood love of kites to teach his students math, history and geography. He opened his first kite shop in a kiosk at the old Market Square Mall. Later came shops on Spring Park Road and at Costa Verde Plaza in Jacksonville Beach. But Mr. O'Shea was perhaps best known for KiteRigger's Kite Shop on the Southbank Riverwalk, which he and a partner operated from February 1988 for about five years. Mr. O'Shea was a fan of the arts of every type and launched a Vaudeville Night program where entertainers performed weekly on the Riverwalk for several years. He instituted programs with the Duval County public schools where children had Kite Days, making and flying their own kites. He also organized kite festivals throughout the city and at the Beaches, and hosted a convention here of the American Kite Flyers Association. ''Flying kites is a way to reach for the heavens,'' he told the Times-Union in a 1991. In addition to his mother, Mr. O'Shea is survived by his sister, Patricia Hollingsworth of Jacksonville. The family suggests memorial contributions to help support the work of Mr. O'Shea's missionary niece, Grayce Munyard. Contributions may be sent to Youth With A Mission, 501 Blacktail Road, Lakeside, MT 59922, marked for Grayce Munyard, Home of the Open Heart. jessie-lynne.kerr@jacksonville.com, (904) 3259-4374

RIP, Rick O'shea

How to be Triclops for dummies...

Hilarious! From Nonsense Records blog:

HOW TO BE A BACKPACKER (FOR DUMMIES)

So you wake up one day and realize your taste in music sucks. And obviously, that means you suck as well. You're tired, frustrated, hopelessly unhip, and you're very sick of your Winamp playlist. But wait...... before you pull that trigger, consider this.

You need hip hop and you need it fast.

For your sake, I've set up a "How to be a backpacker" kit that's so easy, virtually anybody can do it. Don't worry. You'll be in touch with the little b-boy inside of you in no time. After this kit, you'll be keeping it so real that only other backpackers will understand a word you spit. So what are we waiting for? Let's begin.

A good backpacker is neck deep in underground hip hop records. Here's some to get you started:

Aceyalone - Accepted Eclectic

Mystik Journeymen - Black Sands ov Eternia

Cannibal Ox - The Cold Vein

Anticon - Music for the Advancement of Hip Hop

Quasimoto - The Unseen

Atmosphere - Overcast

7l & Esoteric - The Soul Purpose

Start with these. Then supplement with some Aesop Rock, Buck 65, Solesides, Mr. Lif, and perhaps even a little Planet Asia. Throw in some a Kool Keith record for good measure and you're set.

Frat boys are starting to claim they're about the "real" hip hop. Show them who's boss by flaunting your superior tastes while STILL listening to all of their . Here's some of their favorites:

Jurassic 5 - Quality Control

Deltron 3030 (anything by Del)

The Roots - Things Fall Apart

Mos Def - Black on Both Sides

Common - Like Water for Chocolate

Dilated Peoples - The Platform LP

Reflection Eternal - Train of Thought

Method Man / Redman - Blackout

Bonus Credit: Try obtaining some tapes of local artists nobody knows about. This will be your secret weapon.

So now you've got your base. But you still look like a little new-jack. Pick up some certified hip hop classics to boost your credibility. People will think you've been in the game for years. Backpacker approved classics:

Nas - Illmatic

Company Flow - Funcrusher Plus

Wu Tang Clan - Enter the 36 Chambers

De la Soul - 3 Feet High and Rising

A Tribe Called Quest - The Low End Theory

Pete Rock / CL Smooth - Mecca and the Soul Brother

Jeru tha Damaja - The Sun Rises in the East

Freestyle Fellowship - To Whom it May Concern

Gang Starr - Daily Operation

Feeling brave? If you're ambitious, you can take things even further. Convince 'em you were there in the beginning with these:

BDP - Criminal Minded

Public Enemy - It'll Take a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back

NWA - Straight Outta Compton

Ultramagnetic MCs - Critical Beatdown

Run DMC - Raising Hell

Erik B. & Rakim - Paid in Full

Bonus Credit: Tell people you're from the Bronx. Tell them about Kool Herc, Bambataa, and Flash. You were there. Make them believe it.

(Know your elements)

There are a few more things you must learn before you blossom into a backpacker. Without delay, here you have it:

- If anybody asks, your favorite producers are Primo, Pete Rock, Automator, Prince Paul, and the RZA (but emphasize that you only like pre-Wu-tang-Forever RZA).

- You must learn to speak like a backpacker. Pepper your language with "knowmsayin" and refer to as many things as possible as "". You'll have to be patient. Try recording your voice and comparing it to some Busta Rhymes skits. Practice makes perfect.

- Wear T-shirts, hooded sweatshirts, baggy jeans (not too baggy. you do not want to crossover into raver pants territory), and lots of hats and visors. Walk with a slight limp and never smile.

- Have diversity on your side. Backpackers get eclectic with Portishead, Esthero, Radiohead, DJ Shadow, and Amon Tobin. You can say your girl/boyfriend got you into it.

- You must like at least one Jay-Z album. It is a backpacker's obligation. This will save your when people claim you are an elitist snob.

- Smoke lots of weed.

So there you have it. It's really much easier than it sounds. If it helps, try setting a few hours aside each day to practice hip hop. Refer to UndergroundHipHop.com and read Ego Trip's Book of Rap Lists. Go to shows, write some lyrics, learn to beatbox, get some 1200s. Learn about the elements and assimilate yourself into them. Quiz your friends and laugh at their ignorance. Confidence won't be so slippery much longer. Remember... hip hop is a way of life, and now you've got the shortcuts.

If you need further assistance... try to Discover Hip hop.

6 AWESOME JAZZ SHOWS @ SHANTYTOWN IN APRIL-MAY

Photobucket

Some of my favorite nights at Shanty for me is when we have live jazz. I am a sucker for anything with horns. And being a Hip-Hop head, you know I am constantly sitting back, listening, pictureing beat samples in my head. Every one that makes baets should be checking for live jazz shows. Thats that realness, that foundation.

anyways, i digress:

- all these shows are no cover
- we sell good beer
- these dudes are of varying ages and affiliations- I mean Von is pushing 70 probably, then the TNS guys are UNF jazz students. But all of them are WORLD class jazz talent.I mean these dudes are heavy hitters, and it is my pleasure to have them perform in my establishment.
-You wont see this anywhere else in Jacksonville
- Matt Butler is probably the illest guitarist I have ever seen. Iller than Slash!
- if you got any more good points to add, post them as comments!

R.I.P. Frosty Freeze (Rocksteady Crew)

One of the best who ever did it. The dude in Wildstyle with the big afro...

Respect due. Can I please get a moment of silence?

"Hip Hop culture lost one of its founding fathers when Wayne Frost, who was better known by most as "Frosty Freeze" of the Rock Steady Crew, died in Manhattan on Thursday (April 3). Frost helped bring Hip Hop into the mainstream's consciousness with appearances in movies such as Style Wars, Wild Style and Flashdance. The legendary b-boy was 44. Rock Steady Crew Vice President Jorge "Pop Master Fabel" Pabon says Frosty's death followed a long battle with an undisclosed illness.
“He was not only an amazing dancer but a daredevil,” Pabon tells the New York Times. “The moves he did were really super high-risk. He had these signature moves and swagger, this really classy b-boy swagger, that made him extremely unique.”
Among his many trademark moves, Frost invented the "Suicide," a mid-air flip which breakers end by landing on their backs. HipHopDX sends our condolences to the family and friends of Frosty Freeze"- from Hiphopdx.com

Cassettes on Fire and Written and Erased- touring bands from south flo, I think.

Dorian interveiwing Clyde on some website...

SHARING NEEDLES WITH DIRTY MARTINIS....

Yesterday during Artwalk, I saw Sharing Needles With Jesus play the best crust punk I have heard in since the Pull The Trigger days at London Bridge on the sidewalk. Then, I walked down to Marks and had a damn fine dirty martini from those dudes.... then made it to T.S.I. for some 2am Heinikens with my ol lady and BG Quinn. Another fine night in downtown Duval....

Tonight its all about my manz J-Biz. Its is his party. There are like 3 different shits going on, but my man Biz is the show stopper. So if you pay to check out T.S.I. tonight, PLEASE tell Burt no Shirt you are here to see J-Bizzniss. So the loot gets divided right. If your on the guest list, it dont matter much anyway. Yesterday Biz came to the shop, and Junk was like "look at you walking in here like you MC 8 or something" That junk had me rolling....

So anyway, here are tonights events...

MCs you should know: J-BIZ the MC

Yeah yeah, right back ay ya.

The subject of this story is about my man, my mello, J- Biz.

You may not know dude yet, but trust me, you are fixing ta.
Dude is a good rapper (Black President is my ish!) but an even better hustler. See, my man J works hard... and D.I.Y.

All you little psuedo- anarchy D.I.Y. dudes need to take notice of a true example of direct action... besides writing and performing the raps, dude also finds the beats, records the song, arranges the guests, and here is where it gets extra dope- prints, manufactures, and put together the CDs himself, at his crib. Dude is a self contained label/promotions/ everything. And thats besides being a daddy and working a fulltime J.O.B. -Nuff Respect!!!

So homie is officially putting out his CD this Thursday, April 3rd at T.S.I.

He has arranged all kinds of guests, HHH's own Tough Junkie, Illdot Logic, a special apperance from the Other Side Of The South cats out Orlando (Blakout -Nemo is a Beast!-, DJ Y Not, and Arsun F!st) and Edward Waters College is even hosting a crunk-dance party outside at the same time....

Even if you are not a Hip Hop fan, or could care less, please come support one of Duval's best upcoming MC's and one of the hardest workers I have ever met in my life.
Doors are at 10pm, $7 at the door, gets you a CD copy of The 9 to 5 Grind.

I said what the f#@k I got to say... now just go!

N.E.R.D. at the B.I.R.D.

First off, screw yall for sleeping on Joe Beats and Blak last night.... again. One of the best live shows in Hip Hop, along with So.illa, The Smile Rays, and Willie Evans Jr. THE REASON THERE IS NOT ENOUGH QUALITY HIP HOP IN DUVAL COUNTY IS BECAUSE THE HEADS DONT ATTEND ENOUGH SHOWS. Period. Yall are making yourself suffer...

So anyway, the show was excellent.

Tonight, me and my Royal Treatment Brosephs are headed to the Freebird out at the beach to DJ before/after the group NERD. Some ole punk smooth bullshit if you ask me, but I thank my man Tim Hall for putting a brotha on (we gonna do big thangs in the future, homie).

Still, Joe Beats kills it on the twin SP 202's, 10 people show up.

Pharrell rocks some bright as colored clothes and sings like a chick and a 800 capacity venue sells out.

Im just saying, thats NOT keeping it real.
